The visit of Defence secretary of USA Gen Mattis to India and the visit of Indian Foreign secretary Vedham Jaishankar tell the importance each country attach to their own national interest. The Americans want to sell to India American made arms even if they are of inferior quality and aged weapon systems like F 16s. They also want to sell Harley Davidsons, Apple I phones and may be other items without competition from local or other manufacturers from the world like Samsung or Korean, Japanese manufacturers. The Indians on the other hand are worried about the HIBI visas ,China and most importantly Kashmir insurgency and Pakistan.
The India ruling elite accustomed to the dole dished out by liberal media like CNN and BBC and other aligned India media correspondents like Chidanand Rajgatta from Washington, they have to face the facts of Trump presidency. He is a businessman and also a clever businessman who knows which side the butter lies. His list of seven Islamic countries in the original list who were banned from entry are Iran, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Sudan. Whenever Trump talked about attacks in United states he always mentioned, 9/11, San Borodino which were carried about by Saudis, Pakistani immigrants etc. But why the seven nations were selected whose nationals never attacked mainland USA.? Though Trump knows in his heart of heart it is the Radical Islamic wahabism which is the root of all attacks and sustains ISIS ; his business and American arm's lobby's connection to the Saudi kingdom and nuclear armed Pakistan , aligned closely with China cannot be taken head on by him.
Suddenly Chinese leader is welcomed in Trump's private abode but the Chinese are clever and know how to play the erratic Trump to their advantage. They want very badly defanging of North Korean nukes which is much more a threat to them than Japan and USA but at the same time they know the North Korean leader is no pushover and who has understood the importance of nukes for the security of his country as well as his regime. The Chinese were using the sanctions of world body to help themselves of high grade coal of North Korea and other minerals at cheap rate . What can India do here when we have Japan and South Korea as our close economic partners as well as in security matters. North Koreans are not going to step down their nuke and missile programme. The American armada is not threatening them and they are fanatic fighters. But India can play peace maker by initiating dialogue with North Koreans with Japanese and Korean support...
Nick Haley has fired the opening Salvo on Kashmir. We may not have the protection of Russian veto anymore and we have to fend for ourselves. Already the Americans have protected their workers in HIBI visa issue through the congress bills and an executive order.. So they have only the Kashmir issue to pressurize India and I think Modi has unnecessarily boxed himself in a corner by harping about Pakistan endlessly. Macmaster the NSA was given audience by Modi degrading himself and Indian nation. The self interest of Americans of Indian origin and Indian national interest are not identical.
Modi's servile attitude to USA has emboldened even countries like Nepal who held its first joint military exercise with China. We cannot count on Bangladesh as long Teesta remains on table. Lankans kill Indian fishermen indiscriminately (which even Pakistan does not do) .By impoting American F 16s if Modi thinks he can win Trump, then he is mistaken. He will be seen as person who can be pushed to do American bidding by using Pakistan and Kashmiri insurrection which is out of control now..
His trip in May to USA will be a sell out of Indian national interest.

http://www.captainjohann.blogspot.com
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02774636105865916484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13926536.post-31567642961504645392016-10-21T21:53:00.000+05:302017-01-31T13:14:55.743+05:30Modi and Re-hyphenating Bharath with Pakistan Suddenly all those channels which used to be critical of fundamentalism and favouring Aman ki Asha started hailing Modi and his brand of foreign policy.Any body frothing expletives against Pakistan becomes darling of the Media. Why this sudden change after LEMOA signing with USA?
India has been trying to dehyphenate itself from a failed state Pakistan for a long time while the US government was bent upon keeping the two countries in one orbit in every aspect while at one stage the US government even wanted to make a triangle of India,Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Now all these efforts of somany years have gone waste with every channel in India foul mouthing Pakistan, cross border terrorism and lauding surgical strikes. One can see the trolls in Whatsup, Twitter facebook etc finding our PM as the best PM as decided by UN!!! Suddenly we find Nawaz sheriff occupying lime light in Indian media along with General Shareef the villain of the piece. Anyone voicing contrary opinion is forced to shut shop as they are being branded as anti-national. While all this is happening the Pakistani establishment which controls their state must be smirking with satisfaction as this free re hyphenating occurring without any effort on their part.

The real villain of the piece, one can easily see is the US Government with little help from Modi whom they clearly understood is gullible for flattery if only praise him as the leader who thinks out of Box solutions to complex issues. The following are some of the out box decisions taken by Modi sacrificing vital national interest to please western MNC interests
1. Signing the climate deal
2.Signing LEMOA with USA
3,Signing Rafale deal discarding years of negotiations to get best terms bypassing Defence Finance experts
4.Going to Nawaz. birthday party and not following up on that and giving the GHQ of Pakistani army to sabotage the initiative which should have been expected.
5.Almost complete alienation of PDP and national conference leadership in Kashmir
6. Allowing chest thumping by Defence Minister
7. Politicising of Defence forces
8.Gifting $1 billion to Afghanistan's Ghani who was elected with Pakistan help while the world's richest 35 nations at Brussels pledged only $ 3 billion which may fructify or not. As the Kunduz operation shows the emerging power may be Taliban.
9. Pushing Russians to do business with Pakistan by disregarding FGFA deal and other aviation deals which are vital for IAF.
10. The withdrawal of petition by American government regarding declaring Pakistan as a terrorist state is a clear sign of Modis NRI friends stupidity. as most of the signatures came from India.
11.Alienating China By talking against CPEC. Media highlighting diversion of some small river which will not affect the flow in Brahmaputhra, while talking about Indus water treaty. Venturing into South China sea without getting ASEAN concurrence. USA will not fight China even on behalf of Taiwan and Japan as it can never send soldiers into countries with WMDs.

There may be many more. But what one finds is Media fatigue with Pakistan occupying disproportionate space. The re hyphenation of Pakistan was complete at BRICS SUMMIT which also had heads of Government from BIMSTEC Countries. In his single minded attack on Pakistan at these august conclaves Modi was isolated except may be support from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh which were also qualified But Modi was lectured in open by Myanmar Premier about not clubbing a nation with terrorism as only a few indulge in it. Modi lost an important opportunity to high light BRICS BANK achievements, talk to China about balance of payments, currency reform, inter BRICS trade and ofcourse terrorism which should not have fixated on Pakistan and Mullah Azhar alone but could have been done in a clever way BIMSTEC was the worst case scenario where trade was uppermost in their minds.

Whether this chest thumping is going to win elections in UP has to be seen .Defence Minister Parrikar who seems to have unlimited kitty to splurge on weapons and not on make in India weapon systems like Tejas fighters or Indian DRDO missile defence systems. Surgical strikes could have been milked in a sophisticated way.Just because Congress has Rahul, does not mean BJP can take things granted with Mayawathi is expected show strong results.

Now one can see Indian foreign policy is dictated by NRI interests and how these will affect in the long run is to be seen as American boots come calling in Indian bases and Indian neighbours loose respect for India. If only instead on harping on CPEC Modi looks at the map of India and allows Chinese to construct an Eight lane high way linking China's west to Gujarat coast thus killing CPEC relevance to China. We are actually playing the game for US arms lobby instead of thinking about self reliance
This applies equally to Indian science. I am reposting this blogpost from my 2007 post in my sister blog as I found this to be relevant now

" WHY is it that for the last three hundred years, the Muslim world has been so deficient in producing scientists and philosophers? Why is it that even now when the Muslim world commands such immense resources, we lag so far behind the West in scholarship and technology?
The answer is clear: for three hundred years, the door of Ijtihad that is creative thinking has been closed. Almost oneninth of the verses of the Quran stress ‘tafakkur’ and ‘tadabbur’.
Yet, by and large, the Muslim world pays no heed to them, that is, they turn their back on critical thinking.
Instead, we are fond of platitudes.
We love clichés. We bask in the glory of the past. We dread the new, the original, and the novel. We revel in interpretations, but we flinch from creativity. We are good at repeating moth-eaten, time worn thoughts, views and traditions. Using Toynbee’s terminology, we are in the stranglehold of the ‘nemesis of mimesis’. Intellectual stagnation and spiritual degeneration are our dismal lot.
It is ingrained in our psychology that correct answers already exist, and are to be found in books or from authorities, religious or secular. Teachers disperse truth, parents are always right and leaders are omniscient. They act like philosopher kings, often uttering unchallenged banalities. Questioning authority is disrespectful and un-Islamic.
It is time to deconstruct, following the true Quranic spirit of iconoclasm.
Scholars may differ about problems concerning science, but they are unanimous as regards the need for a particular weltanschauung (world view) for the birth, growth and blossoming of science. Science cannot develop in an atmosphere vitiated by obscurantism, dogmatism, fanaticism, intolerance and irrationalism. Science needs an intellectual environment whose keynote is enlightenment with rationalism, pluralism and humanism as its driving forces.
Historically it was the renaissance which prepared the ground for the emergence of modern science. The Dark Age which preceded the renaissance in Europe was dominated by scholasticism with philosophy as the handmaiden of theology. D’Alembert called scholasticism “the so called science of the centuries of ignorance”. The scholastics used to discuss such ‘profound’ problems as the number of angels who could dance on the tip of a needle. Bacon compared the scholastics to the spiders, content to weave cobwebs, ignoring the universe and what was happening around them.
Scholasticism suffered from (i) indifference to facts (ii) arguments from authority (iii) undue emphasis on verbal subtleties (iv) reasoning in matters which observation alone could decide (v) blind faith.
Modern science had to make way by routing scholasticism. It was Descartes (1596-1650) who performed this task. He was not only the founder of modern philosophy, but also, along with Galileo and Newton, one of the creators of modern science. He started off on his philosophical odyssey by the dictum: “In order to reach the truth, it is necessary, once in one’s life, to put everything in doubt.” Modern science has flourished in an atmosphere marked by philosophical skepticism. It does not take anything for granted. It puts to doubt all dogmas, all certainties. The beliefs of a scientist are tentative, not final. They are not based on authority, but on evidence. Modern science is iconoclastic in dealing with convictions based on tradition or authority. As opposed to scholasticism which believed in order to understand, modern science understands in order to believe. As such there is no dichotomy between modern science and the Quranic spirit, with its constant appeal to reasoning, thinking, knowing and deliberating: afala takaloon, afala tadabburoon, afala tafakkaroon.
Science demands immense patience in observation and great boldness in framing hypotheses. The test of scientific truth is patient collection of facts combined with bold guessing as to the law binding facts together.
Science demands an inquisitive spirit, a pioneering zeal and an enterprising élan. Science advances when there is unity between theory and practice. Any dichotomy between theory and practice spells disaster for scientific progress. The Greek science withered away, because it wholly and solely depended on deduction. Though the Greeks scaled the most sublime heights of speculative thought, their aversion to experimentation and manual work, closed the door for further scientific advancement.
Induction was a great gift of Islam to humanity. “Neither Roger Bacon nor his later namesake has any title to be credited with having introduced the experimental method,” says Briffault in his book Making of Humanity, and adds, “The experimental method of Arabs was by Bacon’s time widespread and ea gerly cultivated throughout Europe.” According to Iqbal, “For purposes of knowledge, the Muslim culture fixes its gaze on the concrete and the finite.” He exalts the scientific spirit at the expense of speculative flights into metaphysics. By giving examples of Ibn-i-Khaldun’s view of history, Ibn-i-Maskwaih’s theory of life as evolutionary movement and Musa al-Khwarazmi’s shift from arithmetic to algebra, Iqbal concludes: “All lines of Muslim thought converge on a dynamic concept of the universe.” Thus Islam rejects a static view of the universe and regards it as always changing and evolving. According to the Quran, change is one of the greatest signs of God, and is explicitly implied in the verse: “Every day has its own glory.” The Islamic principle to keep pace with the changing world and an evolving universe is Ijtihad (exertion to form an independent opinion). Creativity is the essence of Ijtihad. The driving force of the scientific technological revolution (STR) is creativity, developing new ideas and sailing in uncharted seas.
Science must precede technology, because science is the tree and technology is the fruit. Today, as never before, the political stability of a country depends on its economic prowess, which is determined by the STR.
In order to usher in STR, we have to take the following steps:
Firstly, our educational system must be geared to strengthen mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology and computer science in our curriculum.
Secondly, our method of teaching must change, emphasising the intelligent grasp of the subject rather than memorising formulas and theorems.
Thirdly, our mass media must be mobilised to popularise science, and scientific thinking i.e. rational, critical and creative thinking.
Fourthly, our scientists must be made to feel that the country stands in need of their leadership.
Fifthly, there is an urgent need of structural change in our scientific institutions.
Every genuine scientist must be encouraged by rapid promotions and handsome rewards. Our scientists serving abroad must be brought back home by offering them handsome salaries. The rotten concept of ‘seniority’ must be done away with to be replaced by the contribution made by a scientist, which is universally acknowledged. Lastly, what is most needed is the political will on the part of the government to regard literacy, education (in particular) and research as its first priority, and involve all scientists, educationists and the entire intelligentsia in carrying out this urgent task.
Recently a Mysore realtor was threatened by a local don that he will be killed unless he paid his demand. The realtor went to police and the goon was arrested. But the local court released the goon who engaged a lawyer who knows. The goon with his accomplices killed the realtor next day itself. the court is not responsible for this death.
There are bailable and non bailable offenses in IPC and Police Inspector incharge will be hauled up even for giving bail for bailable offenses. So they pass the buck to courts who without any responsibility release these terrorists with knowing lawyers arguments..Recently Pakistan has enacted an amendment to its constitution to have Military courts to try the terror accused as civilian courts are influenced by threats bribery etc. POTA, TADA all are allowed to lapse due to socalled Human rights lawyers whose only concern is Human rights of criminals and not their victims. It is time we have also a law like POTA as terrorists and naxalites do not want democracy to succeed. They believe in anarchy and terrorizing the citizens..
The saga of bail application by a terrorist accused Shri Madani in the High court as well as Supreme court of India will be revealing as one goes through the following llinks. When sessions court denies bail, he gets it in High court if not the Supremo court is always there with the battery of Human rights lawyers. Now this terror accused was one of the 33 Terrorists whose release was demanded by Kandhahar hijackers of Indian airlines flight which was later trimmed down. This has no relevance to Coimbatore blast case,Chinnaswamy stadium ,Bangalore case nor was the BJP Bangalore office blast case etc etc because as per IPC, prosecution cannot link these cases. this may be OK for ordinary cases of IPC but terror cases have to be different and evidence in those cases will not be straight forward as in other cases due to the fear which the terror accused causes through his organisation amongst the witnesses and also Judiciary. This can be seen in the case of Prof Hafeez Saeed of LET/JUD whose conviction cannot be obtained in Pakistan court due to lack of witnesses and the very fear his organisation brings upon the prosecution and even state of Pakistan. Now the Pakistan state has to resort to Military courts to try those accused in terror cases by amending their constitution. The Supreme court released him on bail with some funny condition that the State of Karnataka must ensure Madani does not influence witnesses!!!!His wife who is facing trial in the killing of two college girls of Tamilnadu bus who was not allowed to go out of Kerala is now allowed to meet her husband. The recent Church road blast in Bangalore, Patna blast and Pune blast are all getting connected to Al Uma of Coimbatore blast fame , Bhatkal module of Indian Mujahadeen , one can see the sophistication of terror perpetrators. But then to prove in court of law how they are connected cannot be done through normal Indian law which is based on Indian evidence act. Most of these guys will soon get released on bail and Supreme court justices can have their clear conscience because they followed the law to the T. and they are not responsible when the next terror strike occurs by the same terrorists.
Normally one finds the Human rights lawyers all try to follow one common agenda which is akin to EU/ US agenda with regard to LGBT community Climate change , rights of terror accused, smugglers, hawala traders etc and ofcourse Nuclear non proliferation They are also members of SCBA the powerful lawyer club which boasts of members like Kapil sibal, Singhvi, Chidhambaram, Arun Jaitley, Shiv shankar prasad etc etc.
Soon India will find the same dilemma which USA faces with regard to Gitmo or EU with its own terror accused. If India wants democracy to survive they have to deal with this problem soon. The daring way a mafia accused being taken for treatment was killed in broad day when he had 10 police escort vehicles shows how the killers are getting bold and have scant regard for the slow Indian Criminal justice system.

Today they are celebrating Saraswathi Pooja in Tamilnadu while Karnataka celebrated the pooja yesterday. This brought to my mind the story my grand mother told when I was studying 2nd or 3rd class about the Goddess. I was asked to mug up mathematical tables from 1 to 12 by my teacher. I found ti very difficult but some how managed. Then when I wanted my Grandma to check, she said I must mug up tables upto 16. I found this a tall order and I asked her will it ever end? Then she recounted the following story about an arrogant Brahmin and the Goddess.

There was this Brahmin who could recite all the four Vedas and all the Upanishads by heart and all written things available at that time. This proud Brahmin asked every one and all the elders what more he has to learn and they could not answer and finally an aged Yogi asked him to do Taps to Goddess of Learning Saraswathi who could guide him.Accordingly he did the tapas and Goddess appeared and the Brahmin put the same question to Her. The Goddess then took the Brahmin to the sea shore and took a handful of sand and said to him that though She is the Goddess of learning, her knowledge is only this handful and the whole seashore is there to learn which I am trying to do constantly. Then the Goddess told the Brahmin that he has only mugged up the texts while not LEARNT the first thing which comes out of learning which is humility. Then the Goddess asked the shamed Brahmin to Learn and not read the texts without learning.

There was this dictator Saddam Hussein who was ruling Shia majority Iraq with iron hand. He was covertly helping US interests by fighting Iran but overstepped his limits when he invaded Kuwait. But still he was kept in place as 9/11 has not happened. Then after decimating the Taliban and allowing Pakistani instructors to escape in Kunduz, USA wanted change of regime in Iraq. They brought out a tale called WMD and invaded Iraq. Soon Saddam was ousted and executed. A shia majority regime of Maliki was put in place.
Then we had a dictator called Gaddafi of Libya who was also following US orders after the Reagan bombs killed his children. But USA decided to remove him and it did.To day Tripoli is a play ground for all Jihadi elements from Alqueada, Al Nusrah front to some supported by Quatar, etc etc.
Then there was Assad, another benevolent dictator who was ruling Syria . Then suddenly there was clamor to remove him by Saudies . A redline called chemical weapons was woven but suddenly USA decided not to intervene itself.thus disappointing Saudies and Israel. It is here ISIL was formed by Turkey and covert Israeli support with Qatari money. The man power was coming from early release of Pakistani army regulars who were being recruited in Bahrain and other south asians. The Sunni Iraqi army regulars disbanded by USA and not given honourable rehab formed the local lifeline. The socalled Free Syrian army was also part of the recruitment process along with gifted American arms.
One thing common about Saddam,Gaddafi and Assad are that they are without beards!!
A cursory look at the map of the area will show that IS as it is called now cannot exist even for a day without Turkey's help. the oil it produces in Iraq's captured areas are sold by tankers through Turkish ports.Turkey created a covert action story in which nearly 50 of its diplomats in area bordering Iraq and Turkey were captured by ISIS and held as hostage. and so Turkey will not join US coalition to fight the IS a very laughable story. But then the beheading of US/UK citizens was carried out under whose orders. This is the crux of the question if IS is functioning under Turkey/Quatari control. Is IS turning out to be just like Alqueada created by CIA but turning rogue and carried out 9/11.
Then there is the curious case of Un peace keepers in Golan heights being captured by Al Nusrah front and was released only now. The Philippine soldiers disobeyed orders of Indian General and faught their way out while the Fijians stayed as hostages..What is curious is the attitude of Israel which has not raised a finger against this capture of Golan heights by a terrorist group.
I feel There is some redrawing of MAPs is going on in which Golan heights will be annexed by Israel while the present Area conquered by ISIL/IS will become a new buffer state between Turkey and Iraq/Syria while Kurds will get their freedom. The new buffer state will become part of Turkey to compensate for Kurdish loss.
The innocents from India and other nations flocking to middle east to save Muslim Umma as usual are the suckers in this great game big powers play.
The recent terrorist attack aimed at Karachi airport, The Indian parliament attack, The 26/11 attack against Taj hotel in Mumbai, PNS Mehran attack in Karachi, Bagran base attack etc have one thing in common.

1. The attackers numbered always TEN.

2. They always wanted to take hostages and negotiate

3. They try to setup a mini control room once they have the hostages in their control.

4. During the attack they split into small teams of two each or five each depending upon the operational needs and try to occupy the high point in the area and set up a small attack post so that they command the access points of opposing the Government security forces from a vantage point. The high point can be one or two or more depending on the needs of the situation of the attackers.Basically this gives them time and also Media exposure which they always try to have.

5.Invariably the JUD chief Prof Hafeez saeed comes out with dissemination of false propaganda blaming India for attacks inside Pakistan . But the recent Karachi attack which was blamed on India is now accepted by Uzbek front while even the TTP accepting it has become diversionary. Prof Saeed stands discredited even before his own diehard supporters. In India there are Seminarists who blame Pakistan for attacks inside India.. This is invariably picked up by so called security experts in both countries who spew venom against the other without any logic or proof. For this normally proofs sited or some Indian or Pakistani ID cards or uniform or grenade markings etc which is available to each other in plenty. In recent Karachi attack, some Indian Army medicines and syringes were cited as proof of Indian involvement!!!

6. The identity of the attackers is never revealed and invariably all are from Pakistan once meticulous investigation is done as in the case of 26/11.

India must be on guard for similar type of attacks taking place. But this may not be directed against Airports only. This can be against Nuclear or other power projects, Air or naval bases or other security related bases of DRDO,ISRO etc etc. This also can be any soft target like schools, Government buildings etc etc. The recent discovery of Sri Lankan Muslim nationals whose mother tongue is Tamil is being infiltrated by Pakistan' embassy in colombo should be an eye opener. That They ried to infiltrate through Malayasia shows the sophistication of the ISI of Colombo. But now that it is exposed also is a good sign for Malaysia also is now very careful aboutISI operations from its soil. Sri Lanka media students are given $2 million by Pakistan embassy as scholarship shows the importance Pakistan attached to this relationship.

Now once we read the press statement of PIB and the decision taken by the honourable Home minister is what a typical bureaucrat will do to save his skin. when the attack actually happens. I hope the new Minister of home applies his mind more. The number of QRTs is increased to serve what purpose? I remember the last Mmubai attack and the Commando team from Navy called MARCOS was called in to help neutralise the terrorists holed up in Taj. The MARCOS numbered nearly 200 but their training was so poor that they gave the number of terrorists holed ups as minimum of 30 while it could be even 50 while actually it was only 4!!!. But the MARCOS team just did not know what to do except to come in front of Media covered with black handkerchiefs and give their account.

Finally it was Maj Unnikrishnan led NSG team from Delhi which neutralised the terrorists. In Mumbai itself we have the ATS of State police, MARCOS OF Indian navy, QRTs of Indian airforce and now QRTs of Airport security of CISF. Do these guys trained on par with NSG commandoes just like cobra force of Hyderabad police? Do they have bullet proof vests of heigher quality? do they have better quality NVGs as the recent attack in Karachi has shown that the terrorists are equiped with NVGs of very good quality. So do the CISF QRTs trained to fight at night and practise constantly? It is the training which finally gives the force the self confidence to fight.

comfortable majority on its own etc .All sort of exit polls are being compared by experts and they all predict BJP will get near 300 atleast. My prediction is BJP may just get about 200 though I am a BJP supporter.
Then why this hullaboo in the Media. I think this is generated by interested FII and their lackeys in India who want to make a quick killing. With Sensex reaching 24000, I think the whole country is going gaga over Modi.
I will advise all those Indians who dabble in stocks to exit now when the going is good and make a killing. I expect the Sensex to fall well below 22,000 after the counting will start. So SELL SELL your stocks and book profits now.
http://www.captainjohann.blogspot.com
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02774636105865916484noreply@blogger.com1Southern Asia10.833305983642489 77.34375-19.420274516357512 36.035156 41.086886483642488 118.652344tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13926536.post-49075021863926959242014-04-21T16:10:00.000+05:302015-01-25T11:35:40.936+05:30Indian Democracy and Briyani Gang I was watching one of those 50 or odd Tamil news and entertainment channels which have sprung up recently due to elections and saw a group of Briyani Gang in 4 buses who have come with full family including children asking for Rupees 800/- per head which was promised to them for attending the Election meeting as part of the crowd. They were not allowed to get in and so they missed the Briyani being served there. These guys were also going to another meeting soon for another political party and so were agitated for not getting their money and Briyani.
In Karnataka I donot see much of election meetings as one sees in Tamilnadu or even in Andhra. May be spoiler is the Election commission of India. A funny rule is that if the candidate just stands with folded hands not on the dais but below the speaking Leader and then cash spent is not counted for his electoral expenses otherwise if he stands next to the leader it will be added to his electoral expenses. What a silly rule? The EC has done so many whimsical rulings which had no logic except to show its power once in 5 years over the bureaucracy. These election expenses are another farce and seasoned parties know how to get over it and also placing their favorite babus well before the code of conduct is invoked. The colour of Indian Democracy by festoons, giant cut outs, caps, masks and ofcourse the Briyani crowd is very badly curtailed by the socalled rules of election commission. It is the election time the ordinary people get their pounds of worth from the elected Reps who splurge the money. But the Indian Election commission has been a spoiler and they just do not know how Indian mind works nor how they are very clever when they vote.
Recently there was this visit by Shri Ananth Kumar who is standing from our area along with BJP MLA Mr. Satish Reddy of this area and also BJP Corp-orator Mrs. Latha. and of course the main point man of nearby village of Iblur Mr. Muniraju..Our condominium have 1700 votes and they were bargaining with us for the Main road construction ( not done for the last 5 years) if only we voted for Mr. Kumar. Mr.Ananth Kumar was talking about Vajpayee era and not about Modi and I know he will be a dissident when elected on behalf of Advani. Soon enough we had a visit from Mrs. Rohini Nilekenni. She talked about Mr.Nilekenni's role in INFY and creating lakhs of jobs in Bangalorre and also about AADHAR. She also talked about his honesty and how he is going to work for inner party democracy in Congress. When she found that the mood is pro Modi, she even talked about a credible opposition and Nilekenni will be one in the parliament.. She just did not understand politics of the streets as finally people vote not for lofty ideals but for roads etc which Ananth kumar and his team was knowing well. When I suggested to her as the local Government is from Congress, she should appoint a points-man to whom we can go for our roads, Kathas and ration cards as we find the local BJP MLA is the only one available for any job. She said MR.Nilekenni is planning to appoint one local man for every one of 7 Assembly constituencies after the election !!!!Well I could see Mr.Ananth Kumar had his ears and within next day came to our office and after talking to our association office bearers got the main road made within same night in flat 2 hours , the election commission ban not withstanding. That is street politics and sadly Nilekenni just did not have it in him. By this act Mr. Ananth Kumar not only got our votes but also surrounding 7 or 8 odd blocks in the area which might be having a combined vote bank of nearly 5 to 6 thousand. The goodwill will actually continue during the next local election also. I talked to a village elder of Iblur village and he said that Mrs.Rohini Nilekenni only gave lecture and did not understand their needs which is 2 streets in their village not getting Cauvery water while 4 streets get it. It requires a special valve which might cost about rupees 5000/-. I Donot think Mrs Nilekenni even talked to the local villagers about this..
Generals Zia-ul-Haq,Musharaff etc are all ramrod straight, uncorrupted in the normal sense of the way and one looks at Shasthriji, Indira Gandhi, Vajpayee etc and you see these dhothi/saree clad leaders will not win a pageant but Democracy wins in India and every country is jealous of us..But these IT kids will not ponder. They will use the NOTA button not knowing they are actually defranchising themselves. I am sure they would not have braved the sun even if Narayana Murthy has contested from this seat. They will not vote for Nilekenni because that will make Rahul the PM as if they would have voted for him in case he stood as independent. They celebrate International woman's day and they send emails in support of pink jaddi campaign but ask them about pending legislations in parliament, they just have no clue.Infact I do not think they have ever posted their comments in various legislation s which are in public domain especially affecting women's rights, children rights or rights and welfare of senior citizens and of the disabled.

Mostly we used to land at Varanasi for refueling which used to be quite quick. the very good Samosa's which the Airport Canteen served was an added bonus. Ofcourse we used to land during Mango season for the "Dusseri" mangoes as it used to be cheap and tastier.
So it was one of those VIP trips and we have to spend a day extra. Myself and my senior colleague Sainani went to visit the famous Shiv temple and were utterly disappointing at the dirtiness all around. But to me the most blood boiling thing was the presence of Gyan vapi Mosque inside the sanctum of the holy Shiv temple. and most of the Idols were lying in a disorganized manner nearby. I failed to understand the adamant attitude of the Muslims of this holy city who should have handed the Mosque to the temple authorities long time ago. When an Indian Christian like me felt so agitated, I could understand the feeling of ordinary Hindus from all over India who are visiting the temple complex due to interior tourism. In fact BJP should preserve this anachronism as it must be fodder for its growth. Now with Modi standing from this place, many workers visiting this temple city will become BJP's loyal supporters.
Myself and Sainani then visited the surrounding bazaar which was selling perfumed supari in various colours in very cheap rates. Also snack sold in road side dhabhas were tasty and cheap. Then we entered the ghats and Sainani visited a Panda who told about his ancestors. Then we did a great thing. Hired a local boat which was rowed by a young Muslim boy who took us to a small island in the Holy Ganges. I asked Sainani to take a dip and his sins will be forgiven .He retorted I am confusing 'Kasi" with Varanasi. That was his knowledge and he was thrilled when I told him Kasi and Varanasi were the same. He had a dip and the rowing back was very peaceful in twilight and watching all the ghats. One can easily feel why Varanasi is called the Eternal city, a city which people believe to be may be nearly 5000 years old
We were not part of CENTO/SEATO as Pakistan was;but essentially Indian elite was pro west as none of their children went for studies to Soviet Union nor Communism was followed except by the communists. Pakistan got its Sabres and so also F 104 star fighter from the USA as gift. India had its Gnats but every one knew that it is no match to the Star fighter. It is then Leftist Defense Minister Krishna Menon turned to Soviet Union and got MIG 21 deal with complete transfer of technology. But it infuriated the Indian elite in Business, Media and Bureaucracy especially the import lobby in Defense forces. There was this virtual salvo against Krishna Menon as MIG 21 was one of the top line fighters of Soviet union and also in the world at that time. Soon we had IL 14s, AN12s, MI4 helicopters etc etc.The clever way USA used to inject one system into one client state which used to be compensated by EU countries in the third world who have disputes with the client state was broken . The Veto of Soviet Union was the one which used to save India from Kashmir plebiscite demand and various other pin pricks we used to get in UN from western nations. India used to be completely isolated except support from Bhutan with regard to issues affecting our security like the Goa operation, Hyderabad independence and ofcourse 1971 war where we were forced to have a Friendship treaty with Soviet Union which stopped the hostile Chinese from intervening as they did in 1965.
This past history is relevant today as Russia faces a tricky situation in Ukraine. A democratically elected Government was thrown out and Pro EU leadership was installed in Ukraine through covert action. The Americans are trying the same thing in Venezuela now as they did in Syria. But in Ukraine they did something which goes to the heart of newly created Russia whose Black sea fleet is located in Crimea which is part of Ukraine.Crimea not only has 55% Russian origin citizens but also 12% Tartars who also support the Russians. What EU did in Ukraine or what Russia is doing in Crimea may not be legitimate but it has opened a soft under belly of Russia.
Now it is here India has to take a stand which must stand out.Russia has no land border with India. It has given us latest Cryogenic engines when west was scuttling our ISRO plans. While US tried to sell us refurbished F16s for the MMRCA deal, Russia is now collaborating in fifth Generation fighter. Russia has a land border with China which once flared up.Even two days back Americans were gifting $300 million to Pakistan military.I feel it is in our national interest to support Russia when the world media is out to bamboozle it.The present Indian government may not be able to do it. I think Modi the BJP nominee can take the gauntlet and give a statement in support of Russia which will stir things up a bit. Khobargade affair, Generic drugs, Solar panel dispute in WTO etc etc will all vanish if only Modi stirs things which will give India long term benefits.
http://www.captainjohann.blogspot.com
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02774636105865916484noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13926536.post-6470878818256468072014-02-23T21:28:00.000+05:302014-02-23T21:36:13.319+05:30Condition Serious Hai!!! When I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer Metastasized to stage III, Well I know the " condition is Serious hai!!!" Of course my friends, relatives also know this and so the visits and prayers from long lost friends and relatives was soothing. I got Holy water from Lake Manasarowar near MT. Kylas, special vibhuthi blessed by Shri Sathya Sai baba when he was alive and even Holy water from Lourdes. There was this friend and colleague who arranged a special sort of prayer for me at Ajmer Dargha at exactly 6 PM on a particular day.Well now I know the condition is really serious Hai but for my daughter it is a time for enjoyment with so many hospital visits as she enjoys the drive with FM blaring. I could tell my friends that I am in the august company of late Stev Jobs.
But for my wife the condition is really serious as now she has to look after two sick people instead of one she is accustomed to.So this made her I think accident prone that she broke her feet and recently had a major incident when frying vadas with boiling oil bursting on one side of face. It is a miracle that her eyes were saved and we see that as a great gift from God though her condition was serious as per me.As only that morning I warned her not to take cooking, she tried to hide her burns with serious allergy gimmick. But so many well intentioned advice and now I know blisters are NOT to be cut in burns as they are natural band aid for burns. Also now I know "silver ex" should be a must bor every home medicine chest. My wife has just recovered in flat one month without any scar while some were advocating plastic surgery!!!
Conditions could be serious but then how one takes it will make your life a far better. A friend sent me this quote . ""What Cancer cannot take from you is It cannot take away your faith shatter your hope or lessen your love. It cannot destroy true friendship. invade the soul or take away eternal life. It cannot conquer your spirit " I think this says it all..
Well you can be serious outside while being soft inside as the link below shows.

Mr.Jayanand ,Principal of Hyderabad public School made a very perceptive comment “ It is great to see Middle rung students doing so well in life”. Nadella was not one of those toppers but an all rounder. I hope the present Indian parents who send their children to top schools and make them study and study and rote will read this comment. One can see he is typical American from the Email he sent his staff. He says he joined Microsoft 22 years back as he saw then that Microsoft clearly enpowers people to do magical things with its creations and ultimately make the world a better place”!!! An american Desi who might not have had a green card then only thinks about the Money he is going to make and Microsoft is a good pay master.

Now every Indian paper and TV channel is going gaga over his elevation. Will this CEO be of any good to India? I think he will be a disaster for India as he has to prove that he is better than a white American constantly and no better way than putting the screw on India and Bangalore. He is going to do what Obama said to American corporate honchos. No outsourcing to India, No demand for extra HIBI visas, Shift jobs to America and train the poor of America to jobs which Microsoft can create. But then Indian media just have to gloat when an American of Indian origin does something great in America for his or good or for American nation.

He knows for sure GOOGLE has overtaken IE by its Chrome system and nobody noticed it. Ofcourse nobody bothered about search but Google ;and now he is trying to catch up with BING. He also knows that how Nokia,Blackberry,Motorola perished when they did not think ahead. Today the greatest Microsoft system is Windows XP inspite of Windows vista, windows 7 and now 8.They are trying to sell their new product by killing WINDOWS XP. Here he may be in for a shock if Google or any other company brings out an operating system which is free like Linus and also good.

When one looks at Bing tool bar which looks so sexy but then Google killed a promising product Igoogle. Even their Hotmail is classy and Gmail now looks out dated but for its usefulness in various ways. Finally the customer is the king and it makes one salivating.at the prospect of new operating systems and browsers. India had a better browser before Google chrome came in the form of Bhuvan which the powers be killed it as the Indian national interest is the least worry for our political bosses.

Mr. Nadella is no Narayana Murthy and I feel he will be another Preeet Barara but then for our Desies it is cause for celebration just like Sunitha williams,Hargobind Khurana,Dr.Venkatraman etc. etc.

Then I got married and stayed in his house when I joined back and Raju's two kids were always curious about my wife and not me!!.Mrs Yashodha Raju from Chithradurga was a great host and my wife became her friend while for first time I was tasting "Pollies" and Mysore paks prepared by her. Soon I was transferred to Assam and was flying there. Raju shifted to Helicopters and was flying MI4 the work horse at that time..Soon it was 1971 and we were flying day in day out without any rest. Captain Raju was seeing action in then East Pakistan and was awarded Indian Police Medal for Gallantry and his Captain Wing commander Parvez Jamasji was awarded the Veer chakra. He used to bring Jute carpets and Chinese Melamine, bone china sets for his friends as the MI4 used to do detachment in Dacca for flood evacuation and other needs of the new Government. The life was going on routinely though rumblings of discontent was brewing in Bangladesh amongst the younger lot of officers who used to have lot of privileges as Paksitani army officers while the new Democratic Government of Mujib could not provide all those perks. As usual the corruption by the new hangars on got exaggerated and Mujib did not take much notice.
Then in 1975, we came to know that Mujib was killed by Saudi/ISI backed Army officers led by one Politician Khondakar Mushtaq ahmed. But what was a mystery was our MI4 crew also died on the same bloody night. As per the new rulers; they died due to bad weather accident while many suspected it to be otherwise. The dead bodies were delivered to us and cremation carried out in India. For Mrs Raju, her small world came crashing down with two small children under her care. The department was willing to accommodate her in a job but she was not even 10th pass. But the plucky lady did her 10th Certificate soon and was given a Lower Division Clerk job. though she was entitled to a compensation of Rupees One lakh, the department provided her only rupees 42,000/- as it was the compensation every Airforce officer gets and Raju's collegue who got killed was Flt.Lt Bose, an Airforce officer.I was advised not to rake up the matter as she was getting a job which was more important.
Soon she shifted from 4 R quarters which she was occupying to 3R quarters as demanded by some. After some months some more representations came about her staying there also and she shifted to her entitled 2R quarters.Meanwhile she was working and also supporting Raju's siblings in various ways.
The two boys who were seeing all these got motivated and started studying and working hard. In fact I used to feel that the hard work their mother was putting up motivated them.As usual there was the calumny a widow faces in a closed set up.What used to surprise me is the complete lack of understanding by some of our own colleagues who should have known better.and trusted her.She braved all these and only worked harder. Time passed by and Soon the elder boy Vasu cleared the NDA, a great achievement. The younger Prashant did not lag behind and cleared NDA himself. The elder one became a Helicopter pilot in Airforce and was also an ace sky diver who loves the adventure sports promoted by Airforce. He is happily married to another Airforce Helicopter pilot and blessed with two lovely childrren. The younger Prashant is a fixed wing pilot and also happily married with two children.I am sure there are many more of these ordinary Heroines in India in villages, towns etc and due to which our country is moving and prospering but I am honoured to know this lady and her family.
Soon some one whispered that these two are Rajiv and Sanjay gandhi, sons of our PM Smt.Indira Gandhi. They have come for their night flying test for issue of Commercial pilots licence. Our Cessna 142 was the only aircraft with night flying capability in almost whole of India! Also we had the venerable Chief Flying Instructor Capt.Bhandarkar (C.P.L-1) who used to be revered by every IAC Viscount or Fokker captain who used to land at Jaipur. The guys were jovial and looked friendly but we kept our distance as is normal in India. Then came 1971, and then emergency and then Sanjay Gandhi running the administration etc.I donot want to get into the History of that time. But I have seen Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi coming to a Chinese restaurant in Vasant vihar of Delhi and Rajiv always greeting people with a big smile. There was no SPG those days. Then one day Indira Gandhi's was assassinated and Rajiv was elevated as Prime Minister of India by Giani Zail singh. Soon one can see a fresh wave of Change in almost every thing of Government.
2.His introduction of "JANVANI" programme which pitted the ordinary citizens in front of Camera where they quizzed the Babus of all Ministries. This was a night mare for the IAS and other Babus who were comfortable in the cocoons of their AC rooms. Ofcourse they were be planning to scuttle this programme if only Rajiv was defeated in next election. A watered down version which no one seesis being shown in Doordarshan.
3.Then came Asiad and Rajiv was vehemently for Colour TV while the I and B minister Vasant Sathe was against it as he considered it elitist. But Rajiv got his way inspite of opposition from the usual leftists who considered it elitist and it was a boon to sports lovers like me who purchased our first colour TV , a BPL set.in which we used to enjoy seeing Krishi darshan also in colour.
4. Then came his decision to introduce Computers into Indian life especially Government life. The usual chorus started from the left as well as all those who might not want India to progress. But I think here Rajiv showed exemplary leadership qualities and pushed through his IT vision. This singular act of his has changed the vision of India and also India's future that we have some semblance of confidence to compete with China and its hardware. For this alone I give my vote to Rajiv as the best Independent India's Prime Minister ahead of Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and also Vajpayee. In fact the enemies of our nation killed him for this very reason that he will ensure India's rise as an Independent power. It is the same powers outside and within India who are trying to stop Modi from becoming PM. It has nothing to do with BJP or its ideology but the man who may make India a strong power independent of western nations.
5.Rajiv's SMILE which is infectous is not seen in Rahuls face while one can see it in Priyanka.
6. I want to add a titbit about his view on a platform which was to be installed in a Boeing 707. The Airforce and Police top brass were happy that we are buying this platform. But Rajiv asked them one simple question. When you guys are spending almost twice the cost of a new Boeing 747-400 aircraft, why not buy a new Boeing 747 instead of the free 707 which will ensure steady spares, Pilots training and simulator lessons with Air India and also ensure support from Air India in case of any emergency. But our Myopic bosses who did not have his vision only talked about saving money as Boeing 707 is coming free with all spares and ground equipment etc.But today the Boeing 707 and the equipment are lying as junk and ofcourse none can blame our bosses or for that matter anyone and that is how Government functions. This also showed to me how he must be questioning the Babus of Government of India on various other issues.

7.Establishment of National transport safety board (NTSB) under a retirred Air India Pilot who was doing wonderful job of investigating accidents. But this raised alarm bells in our civil aviation babudom in DGCA and AAI who wanted to kill it.
8. Panchayat Raj. I just do not have the knowledge about this issue unlike Mani Shankar Iyer who was very much supportive of this plan.
Now I have not seen Rahul Gandhi except in TVs but he just do not have his father's spontaneous smile, so My vote for this Parliament election is going to be for Modi while I will vote any day for Congress of Siddaramaih in Karnataka who is doing a yeoman job as Chief minister.
But then the powers who killed Rajiv are still in action within and outside India and they may ensure some way Modi is stopped.AAP,Lalu Yadav,Advani are all part of the same group whose guide is from the west.
9.Defence deals.a) Bofors
b).HDW submarine deal
c) Airbus 320 deal
One can talk about Winchadda, Quotorochi, AE services etc etc but none will talk about HInduJa brothers who I felt were the real king pins in this deal as well as scuttling of it by exposing the role of Qotorochi and Ardbo etc.Did Rajiv get the commission? Some one pocketed the commission but I believed Rajiv when he said He was not involved. But all these deal have proved their worth when it was needed.
Now VP Singh who took over from Rajiv was a stickler for protocol that he did not believe any of the Industrialists and he was personally clean to a T but then he was so suspicious of Rajiv's decisions that he scrapped almost all the aircraft and defense deals of Rajiv, His Janvani programme, NTSB and I donot know what else. This cost our Indian nation.dear Indian Airlines just could not recover from grounding of Airbus 320 for nearly 2 years is still languishing.
Mr.Subramania swamy who was part of the one of the most corrupt regime of Chandrashekhar as PM is basically a man who loathes Sonia Gandhi and Rahul. He is great at spinning yarns which sound true to any cursory reader. But it may be interesting to many who are young that he covertly supported Rajiv Gandhi by trying to implicate spotless VP Singh and his NRI son in bogus St.Kitts scandal. The link is below.
http://www.nytimes.com/1989/11/19/world/foe-of-gandhi-stung-by-accusations-of-cia-role.html
Inspite of all the History gaffes, Mr.Modi is making, I feel India needs a man like him now and the people have made up their mind on this one. It will take a historical blunder from him or the BJP to be out voted in 2014.
Indian coastal security is a sham and now the com-int Spying vessel MV Seaman Guard Ohio (IMO 8410691) has exposed all the chinks in our coastal security plan if at all if it exists. That this ship is loaded with ELINT and COM-INT gear which is not even recognizable to our coast guard personnel is known to these guys who were spinning a yarn of providing security to Mother ships against pirates!!!They were spying for nearly 50 days around our coast including a shore visit to Kochi on 23 rd august(when it got a weapon free certificate!) and illegal refueling is now known. But the coast guard were only thinking about arms in the ship which were on board when intercepted recently but not about COMINT and ELINT spying near our nuke plant at Koodankulam. Are they trained to detect this type of sophisticated spying or about cyber security or about Stuxnet Virus which disabled the Iranian nuke plants? Disabling Indian nuke plant or creating a mini accident is the aim of the Permanent Five of UN who do not want a new Nuke power. They will go to any length to sabotage our (unguarded by IAEA)Nuclear plants like at Kalpakkam should be known to our Coast guard. But then they do not even know how to identify these sophisticated equipment. But it suits all who are supposed to be responsible for our coastal security. The Deputy NSA even gave a statement that if the Pirate ship was out of 20 miles from our coast, then it is not committing any offence! Will Deputy NSA say the same thing if the ship has been Chinese or a Pakistani submarine!!! What is worrying is that this ship was doing spying work when operation Amla was on from Chennai to Kanya kumari under the leadership of Coast guard and Tamilnadu police. The Superintendent of Police entered the Port around 11.30 a.m. and inquired with the crew and armed guards on board the vessel Advent Ohio about the incident. After preliminary investigation by the Coast Guard, agencies including Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group, Intelligence Bureau and the ‘Q’ branch police conducted investigations. Besides, National Investigation Agency was also involved in the probe into the detention of the vessel with the crew. Customs (Preventive) would take up further investigation. The vessel anchored at berth - II in the Port was being guarded by Central Industrial Security Force personnel. Officials refused to reveals details of the investigation. WOW, how many cooks in this broth without any accountability!!
Then MV Freedom a 10,000 ton ship narrowly missed Juhu link to the mainland without any one knowing about this. The rescue of a distress vessel and their crew near Madras beach by fishermen with their catamaran when coast guard personnel could not even think of rescuing either the vessel or their personnel who were only 5 KM from the shore due their lack of capacity in swimming in rough sea.

Chairing a meeting on Coastal Security on 12 November 2013 in New Delhi, Shri Antony said the issue has assumed significance in the backdrop of two recent incidents close to Indian Coast. He directed that the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Shipping should come out with a plan of action and regulations on the issue at the earliest. The effort would lead to better regulation on the issue of floating armouries carrying private armed guards and weapons in our maritime zones. But he did not talk aboutEllint or Commint.

India, with vast coastal border of 7516 kms. covering nine coastal States and four Union Territories, poses serious security issues and challenges is the usual refrain. After the Mumbai terror attacks of 26/11, the entire coastal security scenario of the country has been thoroughly reviewed by the Government at various levels. The National Committee on Strengthening Maritime and Coastal Security (NCSMCS) against threats for the coastal security has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary. For securing the coastline, police of all coastal States/UTs, State administrations, Indian Navy, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and other Central Ministries are working in coordination. Nevertheless the task of securing India's vast coastline is immense. The proposal of the Coastal Security Scheme (Phase-II), formulated on the basis of vulnerability/gap analysis carried out by the coastal States and UTs in consultation with the Coast Guard was approved by the Government on 24 September 2010 for implementation from 1 April 2011 for a period of five years. The Scheme is expected to provide support to coastal States/Union Territories to upgrade their coastal security apparatus. The financial outlay of the scheme is Rs.115491.20 lakh ($230 mn) for non-recurring component and Rs.42500.00 lakh ($85 mn) for recurring expenditure. The salient features in the proposal include setting up of new 131 coastal police stations equipped with 180 boats, 60 jetties, 35 rigid inflatable boats(12 for Lakshadweep and 23 for A&N islands only), 10 large vessels (for A&N Islands only), 131 four wheelers and 242 motorcycles. A special provision of 60 jetties with up-gradation of the existing ones has been made in the new Coastal Security Scheme (Phase-II). There are 12 major ports and around 200 minor ports in the country. The 12 major ports are International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) compliant and are subject to security audit once in two years. However, there is no such mechanism of security audit for the non-major ports. Apart from 12 major ports, 53 minor/non-major ports and 5 shipyards in the country are ISPS compliant. But then as MV Pavit and MV Freedom has shown, even Mumbai port is not technically ISPS compliant in actual practice.

5.Indian Customs (preventive) for prevention of smuggling and now it has to share the smugglers and their corruption with may be coast guard.

Then who is responsible for Coastal security? It is the ordinary police stations of the state who have established Coastal police stations. But when it comes to attending Seminars in foreign countries about Coastal security or any other related interesting aspect, then the Indian navy and coast guard will step in without of course the responsibility. The Intelligence Burreau, NIA, CISF, RAW will all come in whithout any responsibility and roughshod over the Coastal Police station whose lowly sub inspector has to be at the beck and call of his bosses in State and District HQtrs who alone will interact with the Media.

Another factor undermining the effectiveness of the coastal security mechanism is differing perceptions among various stakeholders about their roles in ensuring coastal security. Curiously, every agency that is engaged in coastal security feels that the task is an additional responsibility that has been thrust upon it. For instance, many in the Navy contend that its principal duty is to defend the country during wars and enhance its blue water capabilities rather than carry out law enforcement duties for which it has neither the training nor the assets. Some naval officials also feel that they have been assigned responsibility without power and demand the establishment of a single point authority vested in their service. In the case of the Coast Guard, officials argue that their principal mandate includes only search and rescue, aid to navigation and pollution control at sea, not coastal security duties. Likewise, the Marine Police and Customs assert that they do not have the wherewithal and, more importantly, the mindset to perform coastal security duties. Some of the coastal states have not yet accorded coastal security any priority as they do not perceive any threats from the sea. Most argue that coastal security should be the responsibility of the Centre since they do not have the resources to raise additional manpower, boats, fuel and other infrastructure required for securing the coasts. This indifferent attitude towards coastal security percolates down to the district and sub-division levels resulting in their poor participation in various coastal security coordination meetings and thereby adversely affecting information sharing and coordination at the ground level.

The National Automatic Identification System (NAIS) chain, inaugurated in August 2012, to track and monitor vessels by receiving feeds from AIS transponders installed in sailing vessels. The data generated by the static radar chain and the AIS sensors are being integrated with the data from the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) installed in all major ports as well as in the Gulfs of Kutch and Khambhat and these are being shared with all agencies through the centralized National Command Communication Control and Intelligence Network (NC3I). But again MV Pavit and MV Freedom have exposed chink in this chain.

Then what is the solution? there must be atleast 50% reservation in Coast guard for youngsters from West Bengal,Orissa, Andhra Pradesh,Tamilnadu,Kerala,Maharashtra ,Goa and Gujerat and ofcourse Union territories along the coast Finally it is the fishermen Under Coast guard supervision who should ensure coastal security and it is they who should be trained .Nobody should be posted to coastal Police stations who cannot swim in Sea. All coast guard personnel should be taught about Nuclear security, COM-INT AND ELINT. The recent landing of a fibre boat in Tamilnadu coast close to kalpakkam and leaving a single person who surrendered t the local police shows how coastal radar is just a big hole.It just cannot detect fibre boats or rubber dinghies as used by 26/11 terrorists who used one to land in Mumbai coast. They were accosted by a fisher woman but then she did not know how to get any help or inform some one in authority and so kept quiet.

Hope in the next Coastal security conference some of these issues are discussed with prominence given to sub inspectors and constables who man the coastal police stations and also some fishermen from all the coastal states along with Naval top brass and other Home ministry officials, NIA, Intelligence burea,Custom officials, Light house officials, etc etc.
The Indian Army chief said to the reporters """Asked whether terrorists, had occupied any Indian village, he said nothing like that had happened, and no Army post or bunker was occupied by the terrorists or their suspected Pakistan Army accomplices. “We are dominating them from all sides, and the terrorists are holed up. It is a broken ground. It is difficult, treacherous terrain. They are stuck in that, and we will take them on. It is a question of time.” When the reporters asked Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne agreed with Gen. Singh that it was a “localised” operation, which would be completed soon. “We all monitor such incidents. If the Army asks for any assistance, we are there. There is no need to become hyper.” Then again today 6th oct 15 corps commander said “We are in total control of the operation. The reports of our posts being captured by the infiltrators are absurd,” 7th Oct paper report says ""General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra and General Officer Commanding of the 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmit Singh have visited the area to review the situation on ground," Officiating Brigadier General Staff (BGS) Colonel Sanjay Mitra said. "
What is curious about the whole Keran operation is that a max of 40 terrorists have infiltrated which everybody seem to admit.Army Chief says they are holed up in a broken ground and Army is dominating them from ""ALL" sides. Then it should be a simple operation for the Brigade which is facing this situation but why then the Airchief is offering help? Army has its own attack helicopters and they could have easily used it to neutralize the enemies holed up in a open broken ground. But it is NOT using them may be due to fear it could be shot down as it happened in Kargil. Air chief's offer of help means only one thing aerial fighter bomber support. Does our company or battalion commanders are so in competent that Corps commander himself is staying put and seems to be overseeing the operation.
What the Indian Army is conveying to the world and especially to its enemies? Mere 40 guys however well trained they may be (one can call them anything from BAT to Jihadies) are able to hold on for the past 13 days a brigade of troops while staying in a open broken ground which is dominated by Indian Army in all sides. How are these Jihadies being supplied ammo and fed? How they are relieving themselves? Why the Army is showing in major news channels some footage wherein our soldiers are shown to crawl and move forward. Where? The news channels may give a good impression to the ordinary viewers but it does not fool our enemies as well as knowledgeable viewers. The recent claim by corps commander that 12-15 militants have been killed but no arms or ammunition or bodies recovered does not show us in good light to the enemies. How this number is arrived at?
It was some months back 5 of our Jawans were killed and beheaded. Then the Samba attack wherein 3 Jihadies killed 4 J&K constables at Hira nagar PS and commandeered a truck to take them to Army Public school. It took them more than two hours but as they could not find the Public school in their GPS, they just chose randomly an officer's mess inside Brigade HQtrs guarded by a single guard and killed the OC. This also raises disturbing questions about Army's preparedness as well as communication links between J&K police, Para Military forces and local Brigade HQtrs. Why nobody from Hira nagar PS informed the local Army Brigade about the attack through a mobile or state communication? Was the Samba attack a diversionary tactic to take children of Army public school as hostages for a later or ongoing Jihadi operation at Shala Batu village?
What was the purpose of Shala Batu operation by the Jihadies? They do not come to infiltrate and hole up in open broken ground wherein they can be surrounded on ALL sides by the Army? They must have ensured some supply route for for ammo and food and even replacement for the Jihadi fighters. As this area is within our area why this supply route is not being able to be choked by our massive and superior force? Was there a TUNNEL already dug by the Jihadies?
The Las dutt forests at LOC has stories which is yet to be told. But some lessons in preparedness can be learnt especially when it comes to change over of Army inits at LOC. It cannot be done in a routine manner as one does in peace station. The SOP has to be changed so that the posts are never left empty even in very peaceful atmosphere. Also some soft targets of Army like wives and Children could be taken hostages by Jihadi groups operating in India for which one must be prepared.

When Indian and Pakistani independence days were celebrated, I became curious about the speeches made by the founding fathers of the two nations. As an Indian one is more interested in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehrus speech "Tryst with destiny" but I also got curiouser about the speech made by Quiad - e- Azam of Pakistan Mohamed Ali Jinnah.I have reproduced both the speeches in full below and a reader can form his own conclusions.
Panditji talks from heart and seems like a historian talking about the even creating history. But for him Gandhiji is the "architect of freedom", "father of nation" etc etc and people of India come second. For him partition is "ill fortune" and " and calls Pakistanis " who cannot share our freedom". showing how the leadership of India is not able to digest the truth of partition and creation of Pakistan.
Now coming to Mr.Jinnahs speech one can see he is planning for future like writing the constituion, creation of an Assembly, and he finds the very creation of Pakistan as an astounding event unparalleled in history. For him the first duty of the government is law and order, second is abolition of corruption and next comes abolition of black marketing. Then abolition of "nepotism" and "jobbery". Though he concedes that "partition' was not agreeable to many, it is a fact now. But to me the single important aspect of his workmanlike speech is the following lesson which is relevant even today and be also in future. I quote him "We should begin to work in that spirit and in course of time all these angularities of the majority and minority communities, the Hindu community and the Muslim community, because even as regards Muslims you have Pathans, Punjabis, Shias, Sunnis and so on, and among the Hindus you have Brahmins, Vashnavas, Khatris, also Bengalis, Madrasis and so on, will vanish. Indeed if you ask me, this has been the biggest hindrance in the way of India to attain the freedom and independence and but for this we would have been free people long long ago. No power can hold another nation, and specially a nation of 400 million souls in subjection; nobody could have conquered you, and even if it had happened, nobody could have continued its hold on you for any length of time, but for this. Therefore, we must learn a lesson from this."
So as the routine celebrations are over, I only hope the people of India and Pakistan read the speeches of their leaders and see how far we have come to their historical vision.
I

Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long supressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of Inida and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.

At the dawn of history India started on her unending quest, and trackless centuries are filled with her striving and the grandeur of her success and her failures. Through good and ill fortune alike she has never lost sight of that quest or forgotten the ideals which gave her strength. We end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again. The achievement we celebrate today is but a step, an opening of opportunity, to the greater triumphs and achievements that await us. Are we brave enough and wise enough to grasp this opportunity and accept the challenge of the future?

Freedom and power bring responsibility. The responsibility rests upon this Assembly, a sovereign body representing the sovereign people of India. Before the birth of freedom we have endured all the pains of labour and our hearts are heavy with the memory of this sorrow. Some of those pains continue even now. Nevertheless, the past is over and it is the future that beckons to us now.

That future is not one of ease or resting but of incessant striving so that we may fulfil the pledges we have so often taken and the one we shall take today. The service of India means the service of the millions who suffer. It means the ending of poverty and ignorance and disease and inequality of opportunity. The ambition of the greatest man of our generation has been to wipe every tear from every eye. That may be beyond us, but as long as there are tears and suffering, so long our work will not be over.

And so we have to labour and to work, and work hard, to give reality to our dreams. Those dreams are for India, but they are also for the world, for all the nations and peoples are too closely knit together today for any one of them to imagine that it can live apart Peace has been said to be indivisible; so is freedom, so is prosperity now, and so also is disaster in this One World that can no longer be split into isolated fragments.

To the people of India, whose representatives we are, we make an appeal to join us with faith and confidence in this great adventure. This is no time for petty and destructive criticism, no time for ill-will or blaming others. We have to build the noble mansion of free India where all her children may dwell.

II

The appointed day has come-the day appointed by destiny-and India stands forth again, after long slumber and struggle, awake, vital, free and independent. The past clings on to us still in some measure and we have to do much before we redeem the pledges we have so often taken. Yet the turning-point is past, and history begins anew for us, the history which we shall live and act and others will write about.

It is a fateful moment for us in India, for all Asia and for the world. A new star rises, the star of freedom in the East, a new hope comes into being, a vision long cherished materializes. May the star never set and that hope never be betrayed!

We rejoice in that freedom, even though clouds surround us, and many of our people are sorrow stricken and difficult problems encompass us. But freedom brings responsibilities and burdens and we have to face them in the spirit of a free and disciplined people.

On this day our first thoughts go to the architect of this freedom, the Father of our Nation [Gandhi], who, embodying the old spirit of India, held aloft the torch of freedom and lighted up the darkness that surrounded us. We have often been unworthy followers of his and have strayed from his message, but not only we but succeeding generations will remember this message and bear the imprint in their hearts of this great son of India, magnificent in his faith and strength and courage and humility. We shall never allow that torch of freedom to be blown out, however high the wind or stormy the tempest.

Our next thoughts must be of the unknown volunteers and soldiers of freedom who, without praise or reward, have served India even unto death.

We think also of our brothers and sisters who have been cut off from us by political boundaries and who unhappily cannot share at present in the freedom

that has come. They are of us and will remain of us whatever may happen, and we shall be sharers in their good [or] ill fortune alike.

The future beckons to us. Whither do we go and what shall be our endeavour? To bring freedom and opportunity to the common man, to the peasants and workers of India; to fight and end poverty and ignorance and disease; to build up a prosperous, democratic and progressive nation, and to create social, economic and political institutions which will ensure justice and fullness of life to every man and woman.

We have hard work ahead. There is no resting for any one of us till we redeem our pledge in full, till we make all the people of India what destiny intended them to be. We are citizens of a great country on the verge of bold advance, and we have to live up to that high standard. All of us, to whatever religion we may belong, are equally the children of India with equal rights, privileges and obligations. We cannot encourage communalism or narrow-mindedness, for no nation can be great whose people are narrow in thought or in action.

To the nations and peoples of the world we send greetings and pledge ourselves to cooperate with them in furthering peace, freedom and democracy.

And to India, our much-loved motherland, the ancient, the eternal and the ever-new, we pay our reverent homage and we bind ourselves afresh to her service.

I cordially thank you, with the utmost sincerity, for the honour you have conferred upon me - the greatest honour that is possible to confer - by electing me as your first President. I also thank those leaders who have spoken in appreciation of my services and their personal references to me. I sincerely hope that with your support and your co-operation we shall make this Constituent Assembly an example to the world. The Constituent Assembly has got two main functions to perform. The first is the very onerous and responsible task of framing the future constitution of Pakistan and the second of functioning as a full and complete sovereign body as the Federal Legislature of Pakistan. We have to do the best we can in adopting a provisional constitution for the Federal Legislature of Pakistan. You know really that not only we ourselves are wondering but, I think, the whole world is wondering at this unprecedented cyclonic revolution which has brought about the clan of creating and establishing two independent sovereign Dominions in this sub-continent. As it is, it has been unprecedented; there is no parallel in the history of the world. This mighty sub-continent with all kinds of inhabitants has been brought under a plan which is titanic, unknown, unparalleled. And what is very important with regards to it is that we have achieved it peacefully and by means of an evolution of the greatest possible character.

Dealing with our first function in this Assembly, I cannot make any well-considered pronouncement at this moment, but I shall say a few things as they occur to me. The first and the foremost thing that I would like to emphasize is this: remember that you are now a sovereign legislative body and you have got all the powers. It, therefore, places on you the gravest responsibility as to how you should take your decisions. The first observation that I would like to make is this: You will no doubt agree with me that the first duty of a government is to maintain law and order, so that the life, property and religious beliefs of its subjects are fully protected by the State.

The second thing that occurs to me is this: One of the biggest curses from which India is suffering - I do not say that other countries are free from it, but, I think our condition is much worse - is bribery and corruption. That really is a poison. We must put that down with an iron hand and I hope that you will take adequate measures as soon as it is possible for this Assembly to do so.

Black-marketing is another curse. Well, I know that blackmarketeers are frequently caught and punished. Judicial sentences are passed or sometimes fines only are imposed. Now you have to tackle this monster, which today is a colossal crime against society, in our distressed conditions, when we constantly face shortage of food and other essential commodities of life. A citizen who does black-marketing commits, I think, a greater crime than the biggest and most grievous of crimes. These blackmarketeers are really knowing, intelligent and ordinarily responsible people, and when they indulge in black-marketing, I think they ought to be very severely punished, because the entire system of control and regulation of foodstuffs and essential commodities, and cause wholesale starvation and want and even death.

The next thing that strikes me is this: Here again it is a legacy which has been passed on to us. Along with many other things, good and bad, has arrived this great evil, the evil of nepotism and jobbery. I want to make it quite clear that I shall never tolerate any kind of jobbery, nepotism or any any influence directly of indirectly brought to bear upon me. Whenever I will find that such a practice is in vogue or is continuing anywhere, low or high, I shall certainly not countenance it.

I know there are people who do not quite agree with the division of India and the partition of the Punjab and Bengal. Much has been said against it, but now that it has been accepted, it is the duty of everyone of us to loyally abide by it and honourably act according to the agreement which is now final and binding on all. But you must remember, as I have said, that this mighty revolution that has taken place is unprecedented. One can quite understand the feeling that exists between the two communities wherever one community is in majority and the other is in minority. But the question is, whether it was possible or practicable to act otherwise than what has been done, A division had to take place. On both sides, in Hindustan and Pakistan, there are sections of people who may not agree with it, who may not like it, but in my judgement there was no other solution and I am sure future history will record is verdict in favour of it. And what is more, it will be proved by actual experience as we go on that was the only solution of India's constitutional problem. Any idea of a united India could never have worked and in my judgement it would have led us to terrific disaster. Maybe that view is correct; maybe it is not; that remains to be seen. All the same, in this division it was impossible to avoid the question of minorities being in one Dominion or the other. Now that was unavoidable. There is no other solution. Now what shall we do? Now, if we want to make this great State of Pakistan happy and prosperous, we should wholly and solely concentrate on the well-being of the people, and especially of the masses and the poor. If you will work in co-operation, forgetting the past, burying the hatchet, you are bound to succeed. If you change your past and work together in a spirit that everyone of you, no matter to what community he belongs, no matter what relations he had with you in the past, no matter what is his colour, caste or creed, is first, second and last a citizen of this State with equal rights, privileges, and obligations, there will be on end to the progress you will make.

I cannot emphasize it too much. We should begin to work in that spirit and in course of time all these angularities of the majority and minority communities, the Hindu community and the Muslim community, because even as regards Muslims you have Pathans, Punjabis, Shias, Sunnis and so on, and among the Hindus you have Brahmins, Vashnavas, Khatris, also Bengalis, Madrasis and so on, will vanish. Therefore, we must learn a lesson from this. You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State. As you know, history shows that in England, conditions, some time ago, were much worse than those prevailing in India today. The Roman Catholics and the Protestants persecuted each other. Even now there are some States in existence where there are discriminations made and bars imposed against a particular class. Thank God, we are not starting in those days. We are starting in the days where there is no discrimination, no distinction between one community and another, no discrimination between one caste or creed and another. We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State. The people of England in course of time had to face the realities of the situation and had to discharge the responsibilities and burdens placed upon them by the government of their country and they went through that fire step by step. Today, you might say with justice that Roman Catholics and Protestants do not exist; what exists now is that every man is a citizen, an equal citizen of Great Britain and they are all members of the Nation.

Now I think we should keep that in front of us as our ideal and you will find that in course of time Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State.

Well, gentlemen, I do not wish to take up any more of your time and thank you again for the honour you have done to me. I shall always be guided by the principles of justice and fairplay without any, as is put in the political language, prejudice or ill-will, in other words, partiality or favouritism. My guiding principle will be justice and complete impartiality, and I am sure that with your support and co-operation, I can look forward to Pakistan becoming one of the greatest nations of the world.

I have received a message from the United States of America addressed to me. It reads:

I have the honour to communicate to you, in Your Excellency's capacity as President of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan, the following message which I have just received from the Secretary of State of the United States:

On the occasion of of the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly for Pakistan, I extend to you and to the members of the Assembly, the best wishes of the Government and the people of the United States for the successful conclusion of the great work you are about to undertake.

A real winner for the game of Badminton who has such impeccable court manners for us Asians to emulate. Kudos to her coach . I wish her reign continues.

I donot remember the picture but I think I liked the atmosphere. My father was an avid picture goer and so when he was posted in villages as Panchayat officer, he was the one to give Licences to the Picture Tents . Due to some idiotic rule at that time, the tent used to be moved six months later to another place as required by Government law! But being son of Panchayat officer, I used to get a chair while the general public used to watch sitting on the ground. Also I used to get a glass of tea.! What I remember also is the times when picture used to be stopped due to some snake slithering amongst the crowd. MK Thiagraja Bhagwathar, Raja Kumari are some of the names which comes to my mind. I think from mythologicals which ruled the Tamil cinema at that time, the first sociological picture was “Samsaram” which created a wave in Madras and we were posted at Thiruvottiyur which was a suburb at that time.
Quo vadis etc were and other western movies were a pleasure watching them in Minerva theatre, the only AC theatre at that time in Madras. My father used to frequent Plaza theatre in Trichy and I used to like pictures like Trapeze of Gina Lollobrigida, Burt Lancaster, Picnic of Kim Novak and so many english pictures.

When we were posted in Ranipet, my friends suggested we see a Hindi picture “ Ek do theen” of Meena shorey in neighbouring Arcot and her big breasts were an added attraction to all of us who were adolescents. The awesome Tea from Inba theneer viduthi near Arcot bus stand was an added attraction.Soon I saw Awara, and AAN of Nimmi,Dilip Kumar and I was hooked to Hindi movies along with English and Tamil movies.”Tumsa Nahin Dekha and its Music was one of those which I still remember.I cannot forget Shakila of CID fame and also Nadia and John Gawas of Hunterwali. We in Tamilnadu at that time were not even allowed to look at the girls except slyly while the girls never even looked at us. so if a girl looked at you and you locked your eyes that used to be heaven for us the adolescents It is here i remember the film Pyassa in which Mala sinha looks at Guru dutt from under her bench and locks her eyes. WOW it was one of the sexiest scenes for me at that time

The person who made me cry copiously was A.Nageswara rao in Devdas and Gemini Ganesh,Revathi combine in “Sumaithangi” and so many other actors like Shivaji Ganeshan etc.

Pictures like Ben Hur or the chariot race or the westerns of Clint eastwood and its Music werre everlasting. .Music reminds me of Musicals like The sound of Music, South Pacific, Oklahoma, My fair lady etc.

I think it was by sheer luck I saw “Enter the Dragon” at Anand theatre in Madras as I was curious how it is still attracting crowds after more than a year. WOW what an entertainment and I was hooked to this genre and I never missed all those Shaolin pictures and the recent being “Crouching Tiger” and Jet Li pictures.

I Must also remember the picture halls which have vanished but gave immense pleasure in their own way. Palace de wales of Tinnevelly Junction and Briyani at Sultania restaurant.New Elphinstone,Midland,NewGlobe,Minerva of Madras city and Briyani at Bukharies .Later modern halls like Shanthi, Anand came and also Vecumsee’s Sapphire etc.How can one forget the Kempe Gowda road of Baangalore and the first theatre “Alankar” with lights for seats and screen opening. Trichy’s “Plaza” , Chanakya, Shiela and Priya of Delhi have all gone into history with modern PVR and INOX opening in every city and town of India. Pop corns and burgers have replaced the lowly tea and samosas and vadais etc.

The advent of VCR and renting movies for rupees 10/- of VHS cassettes and TV pictures might have played its own role in reduction of theatre going for Cinemas due to economics of picture viewing in a theatre.

Did Cinema play a role in my making me as a person. I think it definitely did play an important role especially in a repressive society like in Tamilnadu where just looking at a girl was considered a sin.The love between teens of different castes is a sign Cinema playing its part in breaking barriers like caste, religion, money etc etc. and may be evolution of Politicians in Tamilnadu my home state.Do I see cinema now? I do see occasionally in TV but not at one

full stretch. The recent incursion of Chinese border guards and their subsequent withdrawal has created lot of Media frenzy about Ladakh and ITBP role and Army's interest in acquiring complete operation control over ITBP.This shows how the Army Staff have NOT read the Colombo proposals of 1962 which India has accepted. As per proposal 2(c) only civilian posts are to be allowed to be established in the western sector.
The following Officers of Indo Tibetan border force did yeoman service to the nation unsung, un noticed in very difficult terrain without any security protection against the Chinese. It is just their guts and inner strength as well the unbroken Intelligence Bureaus esperi-de-corps which sustained them. For us ITBF personnel Shri BN.Mullick's dictum that "" Intelligence officers have no borders""was holy Manthra.
Mr.Charan singh, DYSp of Punjab police on deputation to IB was the one who discovered first the Chinese Aksai chin road connecting Tibet with Sinkiang and brought some Chinese mile stones on his Pony's back. He became little more adventurous and was taken Prisoner along with some ITBF constables near Hot springs post and was tortured by the Chinese which left him partially paralyzed in one leg. This day is observed as Police Memorial day on 21st October.
Mr.N.S Bhatti who was instrumental in re establishing the Indian ITBF posts 7 main posts supported by another 10 or so subposts which were withdrawn during 1962. Some posts like Track junction, Murgo,DBO were established with just 4 or 5 personnel with signal officer carrying those bulky SAFI sets made by BHEL. But the posts were established by July 1963 with some casualties due to weather. Ladhaki sepoys of ITBF could easily face the weather but then others from plains have to face the weather.Track junction which was at 17,800 feet was the worst where one has to melt ice throughout the year to drink.
Mr.Parminder Singh who was in charge of Koyul post impressed Mr.BN Mullick so much with his adventurism like getting a Chinese pony to our side that he promoted the entire Koyul post by one rank. What was tricky was that the constable cook got promoted as Havildar and created funny situation amongst other constables. But this one single action by Mr. Mullick was talked about amongst every one of ITBF personnel and acted as a great incentive to show similar adventurism. May be this is what made us to see the inside of Khurnak fort or Rezang Lungpa posts of the Chinese which I donot think is possible now.
Samuel Santhanam who climbed most of the OPs and took snaps.Mr.Lakshmi narayanan,Sd Sehgal, guptha, GK Uphadyaya, Upendra. AKBakshi,CN parthasarathy, KS Rawat,Ponnuswamy,Chatterjee, are some of the names which come to my mind. There were constables like Abdul Razzak,Mathai who within two months of posting could speak Tibetan fluently though from Kerala on deputation to ITBF from CRPF. Grass cutter Norphel who kept the Ponies fit for recce. I recovered 8 bodies in sleeping bags from inside a bunker at Rezang La and also plenty of empty rounds fired from a LMG nest. The visit of Mrs.Narasimhan along with her husband was a great Morale booster for the entire checkposts she visited as well as the Army units which were posted alongside us.I have already posted in 2009 how the Chinese killed three of my constables in cold blood at Dumchele. The link is below. http://captainjohann.blogspot.in/2009/09/indiachina-war-1962lessons-for-2009.html.

There were many signal officers who have to carry the bulky SAFI sets which never worked properly but has to keep the communication going from check posts to HQTRS. Some like Mr.Dayalu who showed adventurism was selected to be communication officer for the Everest expedition led by Cdr.Kholi. The maintenance of the communication link in earlier days was done by police veterans who came on deputation to ITBF from Mysore police,Madras police etc.I want to mention Mr.PM.Nairof Mysore Police and Mr.Ramaswamy of ITBF who maintained all the check post's communication equipment by visitng most of the posts..Mr.Purushotham of Mysore Police who was one of those who reestablished the check posts after the Chinese aggression in 1962 got the Police medal. There were others like Mr.Rangan,Ramdas,Ramakrishnan, Venkatachalam,Gill who did yeomen service silently. ITBF also suffered from lack of proper road transport like the Army which had Shakthimans , Nissan one tonner trucks and Jonga jeeps with their 4 by 4 drive while ITBF had the Tata 3 tonner which will not start or didnot have the 4 by 4 drive. The Willeys jeep was another poor performer but they were the ones procured from CRPF.
One cannot forget the wild life of Ladakh especially the Ibex, Mountain goat, wild Horses, Rabbits, and I was fortunate to see the rare legendary Golden Fox in all its majesty only once. The modern digital cameras were not there at that time and I had the Russian Lubitel camera but not enough 120 films which could be processed.easily or purchased. The giant 5 ton Shakthiman trucks crossing over frozen Indus river is a sight to see. The Ink blue Pangong lake is another sight to behold. There were some innovation too with Chinese dollar serving as yeast for setting curd. Many a Hotspring like at chumathang, Hotsprings ,Demochok etc.were so invigorating to take bath.
The Indian media was crying hoarse about Chinese aggression which shows their complete ignorance or vested interest to provoke some skirmish between the two nations so that American Arms export lobby is benefited. Why the Chinese came inside 19 KMs and not 21 KMs? For Indian media there is no interest to study the Colombo proposals( given below in full), or the 1993 or 1996 pacts between the two nations and what they say. They even do not know the difference between Chinese army or its border guards who are the ones who pitched the tent. They do not even know the difference between ITBP, the role of Army in peace and war. They never interviewed any officer from the the Ministry of Home or ITBP while the retired Generals and colonels were mouthing their valour and patriotism. Why the Chinese came at this time and why did they withdraw? What is the significance of Chinese Prime Minister's coming visit? These require deep study.Chinese respect strength and Self reliance and that is what India should strive to achieve.
COLOMBO CONFERENCE PROPOSALS ON
INDIAN-CHINESE BORDER DISPUTE*
* * * * *
Proposals of the Conference of six non-aligned nations held at Colombo
(10th to 12th December 1962)
1. The Conference considers that the existing de facto cease fire period
is a good starting point for a peaceful settlement of the Indian Chinese
conflict.
2. (a) With regard to the Western Sector, the Conference would like to
make an appeal to the Chinese Government to carry out their 20
kilometres withdrawal of their military posts as has been proposed
in the letter of Prime Minister Chou En Lai to Prime Minister Nehru
of November 21 and November 28, 1962.
(b) The Conference would make an appeal to the Indian Government to
keep their existing military position.
(c) Pending a final solution of the border dispute, the area vacated
by the Chinese military withdrawals will be a demilitarized zone
to be administered by civilian posts of both sides to be agreed
upon, without prejudice to the rights of the previous presence of
both India and China in that area.
3. With regard to the Eastern Sector, the Conference considers that the
line of actual control in the areas recognised by both the Goverments could
serve as a ceasefire line to their respective positions, Remaining areas in
this sector can be settled in their future discussions.
4# With regard to the problems of the Middle Sector, the Conference suggests
that they will be solved by peaceful means, without resorting to force.
5. The Conference believes that these proposals, which could help in
consolidating the ceasefire, once implemented, should pave the way for
discussions between representatives of both parties for the purpose of
solving problems entailed in the ceasefire position.
6. The Conference would like to make it clear that a positive response
for the proposed appeal will not prejudice the position of either of the
two Governments as regards its conception of the final alignment of the
boundaries.
Upon request from the Government of India, the followirg clarifica-
tions of paragraphs 2, 3 and h of the Colombo Conference proposals were
given by the Delegations of Ceylon, UoA.R. and Ghana:

Of course as usual with complete air superiority Israel pounded Gaza with its bombs and inflicted casualties as usual in the ratio of 100:1 . Soon the chorus from the world and UN started to stop the airwar etc etc.But there was a distinct change this time.Though the Hamas was inflicted untold punishment as usual, the Israelis had to contend with nearly 1000 rockets on its soil with air raid sirens as far as back Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. In spite of Iron dome shooting down 80% of the incoming rockets for the first time Israelis in major cities like Tel Aviv etc have to goto the bomb raid shelters for safety. This was a unique experience for many Israelis. Entebbe, Yom kippur war,1967 war etc etc and Israel has been the David. Though the world supported the Palestinians by empty talk and also vote at UN(normally vetoed by USA) , the underlying admiration for Israel was always there amongst ordinary people.
Though only single digit casualties it faced , the daily air raid sirens was something the Israelis could never get accustomed to as they are so used to comfort and security. With elections approaching the ruling Government of Israel wanted a face saving device to stop the fighting as the voting public are not used to this type of insecurity. Incomes Muslim brother hood led by Morsi, President of Egypt.Normally this role used to be given to the Egyptian intelligence under President Mubarak. But today with Arab spring the confident Morsi played his cards well.USA followed suit by supporting this effort with Obama and Hillary sitting in distant Cambodia. As Hamas trusted Morsi that he will not let down their vital interests, the Sunni league of Arab money bags also stepped in.Now the deal was stitched with abject surrender by Israel that it will
1. Stop the air war
2.It will stop targeted killing of Hamas leaders
3.The blockade of Gaza will also be lifted in a phased manner
In return Hamas has agreed to stop firing rockets into Israel.
The most humiliating part may be that Israel is now answerable to Morsi (Muslim brother hood) for sticking to its part of the bargain while Morsi should also ensure Hamas also sticks to its part along with myriad other small factions who also fire the rockets like Islamic Jihad.
What it has proved to the Arabs and also to the world is that Israel has lost the stomach to fight a long drawn out war.The mobilization it did for invading Gaza was an empty rhetoric. What PLO under Arafat could not achieve; the socalled terrorist organisation Hamas with covert help from Iran has achieved a sort of military parity.Israel's idea that the civilians of Gaza will rise against Hamas after the severe punishment with smart bombs near their homes which are hoarding the rockets did not work at all.
The Military planners around the world have now to take into account the new Military doctrine of terrorist groups like Hamas which can smuggle or even manufacture home made rockets in large numbers can bring much richer nations like Israel with its sophisticated Iran dome missiles and total air superiority to talk on its terms and accept them. The blockade by Israel of Gaza is a complete failure with tunnels and may be even covert support of Egyptian intelligence the rockets are smuggled in or its manufacturing expertise was given to the Palestinians with Mossad not knowing anything about it.Indian security planners also must take note of this new phenomenon.
The cease fire is holding and Palestinians have won the UN vote. But is Israel going to withdraw from west bank and allow an independent Palestine? No way. Is Israel going to allow the Palestinians to return to their land.No.I feel the new regime which comes into power in Israel is going to be hawkish with more settlers and may be even more expansion. It may even use tactical nukes or similar weapon in future war.
The Muslim brother hood under Morsi got so emboldened by this success that it has given the President dictatorial powers until a Sharia inspired constitution is written This also may trigger another sort of internal trouble in Egypt.
The USA under Obama may say for the first time Hamas has accepted the leadership of Sunni group of Arabs instead of Iran. The money bags of Arabs who cannot even control their own extremists how can they control Palestinians?
All in all the world can expect another round when the Israelies have mastered the art of blunting the mass rocket fire from Palestine But then Hamas knows it as well as Iran and its Arab supporters.Personally I feel tactical nuclear weapons is going to be used as a deterrent in the next round. Those who are interested may also read my post about this issue in 2009. My wife was feeding me with Pomengrate juice and all those vegetables supposed to increase my strength for the surgery. A friend advised me to take some Ayurvedic medications and I consulted a doctor who gave me some medicines to increase my strength and immunity. As I was advised to select the surgeon who has the most experience in this type of surgery I selected some old experienced hands..But as I consulted some young specialists, I found them to be methodical and even in their very first physical they could detect a lump in my left throat which I myself never noticed before as it was painless and not much visible.
Apart from the Biopsy of the stomach lump, now I was advised to do a FCNA needle biopsy to find about the throat lump. I was advised to do wedge biopsy even if the needle biopsy turns negative. The older doctors advised me to remove the lump altogether. Mean while I was advised to do the PET scan and its report was given utmost importance. This revealed that the tumour has metastasized. The report says "Primary tumour in the D2 segment of the region of the ampulla. 2. Metastasis to peri-pancreatic, mediastinal, left supra clavicular and level III cervical lymph nodes.." The young doctors advised me against going for surgery and also Chemo therapy. They advised me to wait for some symptomatic pain and address the problem as and when it occurs. They also said they can give Palliative chemotherapy just to please the patients as they found this to be normal practice My wife did not accept this and we have to go for various opinions from outside of my local consultants and confirm the findings. Ofcourse the older doctors still preferred surgery of the primary as well as secondary tumours.
All these investigations entailed lot of running around to various hospitals and meeting doctors, getting reports, etc etc.I could not have done it but for a friend who is young and working. He was always there and when he went on tour he ensured one of his colleagues came as my escort. I will say even sons do not do that much while he was just an old neighbor. I consider these people as angels who come in human form to help people in need. I thank God for these mercies.
After lot of thinking ( which included talk with some some cancer patients and families) and prayers I decided to go by my answer to the prayers and not to go for surgery which also had support of my wife.
Now I have to look for alternate therapies available in India. As i am already under Ayurvedic medications I decided to stick with it as it has so far saved me from the stomach pain which I was getting recently.Vegetarian diet is rather difficult to maintain for a person who is used to take daily Non vegetarian food. But then one has to survive for the family and also keep away from pain. I have zeroed in on some of the centres in my city and I am providing links to some of the cures as provided by my well wishers.I repeat I have not tested or used their medications to tell the efficacy of them. I am keeping them as alternate when I feel the pain or face some other problem.

I also got a SIDDA medicine phone number who is from my home district and visits Madras once a month. On inquiry it was found this man is a 'Nattu vaidyar'. But his treatment has worked in some down's syndrome cases.
All the above alternate sytems are functioning in India without any valid certification from Indian Government's AYUSH department. Nobody knows whether anybody found any cure or whether they are utilizing the patients and their families view of trying out something as last resort.and pocket some money in the bargain.
I feel that AYUSH should open a AYUSH CLINIC WITHIN the confines of Regional cancer centres of Government of India so that they are systematically tried out and found out about the efficacy of the treatments through proper research. I think Indian Government should look at the Asian cancer center of China and how they have amalgamated the Chinese system of medicine with that of modern allopathic treatment. When will India learn?
http://www.captainjohann.blogspot.com
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02774636105865916484noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13926536.post-84320669177992230782012-10-14T12:48:00.001+05:302012-10-14T12:52:31.828+05:30Good Bye or Fare well ? May be a year or more that I started getting stomach pain which will last a day and then vanish when I vomited. The attack was coming once in three months or so and as advised by doctor I did ultra sound of the stomach and nothing much revealed and everything looked normal. So the doctor after physical declared may be it is a gastric trouble. But then the attack started coming once a month or so and I have to undergo an endoscopy and the doctor found a tumor located in the Duodenum . The biopsy report revealed it to be
malignant and also the Cat scan which was also carried out.So now I am having duodenal cancer and advised a Whipple surgery ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duodenal_cancer). I was wondering whether I can withstand this major surgery at this age with my heart problem, When I went for advice the Medical oncologist detected another insignificant lump on my left throat and another needle biopsy was carried out. If this also turns positive, then I am advised chemo therapy as surgery will not work in this spreading case.I am waiting for Monday when the report will be available..The only redeeming part is my daughter who does not seem to understand the issue is happy going to various hospitals and having a cold coffee.
Now as a carers of a single daughter who is disabled due to Mental illness both me and my wife have this nagging question."After us What happens to our daughter?" When people fight for the rights of Mentally ill , the activists in our group jump and shout and send email to Ministers and Media etc.But when it comes to caring for homeless mentally ill and wandering, they keep silent. My daughter will not be homeless and she will be entitled to pension whatever the government gives but still who will look after her as is being done in the case of Disabled due to Mental retardation, Autism etc through the National trust act. The Rehabilitation Council of India very cleverly does not even has a training system for the social activists who will do community based rehabilitation for the disabled due to Mental illness as is being done in the case of other seven disabilities.
For me "blogging', has been therapeutic and I was able to make friends with people whom I have never met. To discuss, argue, exchange views with strangers who are enlightened and it was an enriching experience. I do not know what to say.
For me it is just a wait for "Good bye" or "Farewell" and only God can know that.Love to all those who visit this blog
http://www.captainjohann.blogspot.com
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02774636105865916484noreply@blogger.com8Bangalore, Karnataka, India12.9715987 77.594562712.724026199999999 77.2787057 13.2191712 77.910419699999991
